When I was growing up, basketball was my whole world. Every day I would shoot baskets in my driveway, run sprints, and jump rope. My dream was to play in the WNBA and to be as awesome as Sheryl Swoopes. After my eventual retirement, I was going to work for the FBI as an undercover agent (picture Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs).
I didn’t know that life would take me in a completely different direction, from quitting basketball to getting married at 20, to moving to Japan, to living in the Czech Republic and giving birth to my baby girl there.
If you had told me that in my 30s, I would become a college professor, and that in my 40s, I would become a yoga instructor, a health coach, and take up surfing, I would have told you that you were nuts.
I really love routine and certainty. I often imagine that I’m “in control” of my life. But whenever I’ve let go and followed my heart, even if something doesn’tmake logical sense, that’s when the magic has happened.
When we let go of the safety of the shore, swim out to themiddle and let the current scoop us up, anything is possible.
HEARTWILD LIVING, BABY!!!!
Part of the terror is to take backour own listening, use our own voice, see our own light.
